MC1 Timothy M. Miller
MC1 Miller enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1986, completed Recruit training in Orlando, Fla., “Basic Electricity and Electronics” at Great Lakes and Fire Control Technician “A” School. As a Reservist, Miller drilled at Naval Reserve Center Southfield, completing Annual Training (AT) aboard USS Valdez (FF 1096) and USS Barney (DDG-6).
In 1989 Miller moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and transferred to the Naval Ship Weapon Systems Engineering Station unit at Naval Reserve Center Dallas where he worked on the Terrier Missile system. After fulfilling his contract in 1994, he transitioned into a civilian only role.
As a civilian, Miller was an audio/video technician responsible for installation and maintenance of high-tech interactive systems from 1995-2001 with various video production agencies. His forte was video producing and editing and he travelled the world producing and editing commercials, documentaries, training videos, political advertisements, television shows and feature films.
Since 2001, Miller owns Visual Edge, a media creation company. His productions range from simple web-based testimonial videos to enterprise level websites.
Miller returned to the Navy Reserve in 2007 serving Navy Information Bureau 7th Fleet Det. Dallas at Navy Operational Support Center Fort Worth. He completed AT as public affairs officer for exercise Terminal Fury ‘09 aboard the USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19).
In October 2009, Miller volunteered for active duty at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Norfolk, VA. Working for the Naval Special Warfare community, his duties included; public affairs, writing stories, producing video, print, and web materials using the latest in technology. His active service time was 15 months.
Miller assisted the 7th Fleet in March 2010 during a multi-country tour providing public affairs support as well as video and still imagery. He also provided support during Operation Tomodachi (Friends), the assistance operation to support Japan in disaster relief following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
Miller’s personal Navy awards include Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Global War on Terrorism (Service), Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Marksmanship.
His professional awards include: Houston Worldfest Honorable Mention-Excel Openers for live events (1999); Telly Bronze-"Inside Excel," a corporate news and information magazine video (2000); Telly Bronze-"Revolution," a high-tech e-commerce video (2000); Houston Worldfest Gold-"Net Talk Interactive," an internet show using new technology (2001); Telly Silver-"Net Talk Interactive." (2001); Telly Gold-"Barbershop," Political ad for a congressman (2003); Addy Gold-"The Blocking Machine," Political ad for a senator (2005); Pollie Gold-"The Blocking Machine," American Association of Political Consultants (2005); Telly Gold-"Culture in India-a Christian Perspective" (2007); Houston Worldfest Silver Remi-"Adopting All Kinds," a documentary on adopting special needs children (2008).
Miller volunteers community service time developing websites for non-profit organizations, as well as various video production projects for churches, schools and city departments. He is married and resides in Roanoke, Texas with his wife and three children.
